Ed has been part of the Scottish music scene since 2015 both as a musician and recording engineer. Before opening Pocket Sounds at Granton Sound Machine Ed worked at Chamber Studio, mentored by Graeme Young. Prior to this, Ed ran Meatlocker Studio as part of the Peanut Press Cafe.

Meatlocker was a community studio that provided a space for local artists to record when commercial studio rates weren't feasible. This is something he hopes to continue in his work at Pocket Sounds. Chamber Studio allowed Ed to gain experience working in a larger,  more established studio, exposing him to a wider range of recording methods and equipment.

As a musician himself (Dinosaur 94, Puppy Teeth, E.G.G. & BWEAD) Ed approaches recording from the point of view of the artist. Here's a little about his philosophy:

"Whilst sonic excellence is important to every project, I like to focus far more on creating something that sounds interesting and unique. The records I love most are never sonically perfect by modern standards, they make bold statements and sound great as a result. They also tend to include clues in them that connects the listener to the time and place that they were created. Whether it's the sound of a tape machine firing up at the start of the piece or an outtake that's been left in, I am always looking for details like this to help make a project unique and special to those interacting with it."
